Welcome to the ASG

The Abattoir Sector Group was established to bring together small abattoir operators with animal welfare groups, sustainability and environmental groups and Government to support the provision of small abattoirs across the U.K alongside high animal welfare standards through the sharing of resources and knowledge.

Simon Doherty former President of the British Veterinary Association chairs the ASG with John Mettrick from National Craft Butchers acting as vice-chair. Marisa Heath from APGAW temporarily provides the secretariat resource. Membership will be formed of operators, processes, trade groups, retailers, NGOs and once fully formed we will seek to respond to relevant consultations and represent small abattoirs at relevant events. We will regularly seek member’s opinions to ensure we represent them effectively.
